The World of Joseph: How God Shaped Him for Greatness

08 Sep 2023 Jordan Eric

Joseph was a man of faith who overcame many trials and became the ruler of Egypt. His story shows us how God can use our difficulties to prepare us for His purposes.

Joseph was loved by his father, but hated by his brothers. They sold him as a slave to Egypt, where he worked for Potiphar. He resisted the advances of Potiphar’s wife, who lied about him and got him thrown into prison. There, he met Pharaoh’s officials, who had dreams that he interpreted. He asked them to remember him, but they forgot.

Joseph did not lose hope in God, who gave him the ability to explain Pharaoh’s dreams. He warned him of a coming famine and advised him to store up food. Pharaoh was amazed by Joseph’s wisdom and made him his second-in-command. Joseph saved many lives by managing the food supply.

Joseph also forgave his brothers, who came to buy food from him. He revealed his identity and invited them to live in Egypt with their father. He reunited with his family and received his father’s blessing.

Joseph learned many lessons from his hardships that made him a better leader. He learned to trust in God’s plan, even when it seemed unfair or hopeless. He learned to obey God’s commands, even when it cost him or brought him trouble. He learned to serve others with excellence, even when they did not appreciate or reward him. He learned to apply God’s wisdom, even when it was difficult or unpopular. He learned to forgive and reconcile with his enemies, even when they did not deserve it or expect it.

Joseph’s life inspires us to follow his example. Like him, we can trust that God is working for our good and His glory. Like him, we can obey God’s will and resist temptation. Like him, we can serve God and others with our gifts and talents. Like him, we can listen to God’s voice and follow His guidance. Like him, we can forgive and reconcile with our enemies.

Joseph’s world was a world of pain, but also a world of grace. God was shaping him for a greater destiny, and he accepted His discipline. In the same way, God is shaping us for a greater future, and we should welcome His correction. As the Bible says, "God disciplines those he loves." (Hebrews 12:6)

Gratitude and Appreciation: Wankun Seventh-Day Adventist Church Bids Farewell to Training Ministers Hobert Berry and Kennedy Mark

20 Jul 2023 Georgina Saria

For training ministers Hobert Berry and Kennedy Mark, their journey has been one of spreading the word of God and bringing hope to those in need within the Adventist community. Both ministers were attending Sonoma Adventist College, where they received their training and education.

Their journey began at the Markham two district ACS Federation in Sankiang, where they led out in the dawn prayer session during their first week.

The following week, they joined the Wankun Pathfinders and attended the Morobe mission Pathfinder Fair at Klin Wara. There, they conducted morning devotions at the campsite, inspiring and uplifting our little pathfinders and their leaders.

In their third week, the church sent them to Nasrua to conduct visitations and Bible studies with the church members there. They also ran a one-week revival meeting, bringing renewed faith and energy to the church community.

During their final week, they conducted a one-week indoor evangelistic meeting at Wankun and Bumpuap Church. Throughout their journey, they were kind and friendly to all church families and the community as well, spreading love and compassion wherever they went.

A farewell gathering was organized by the church members and administration of Wankun on Sunday afternoon at the church ground. Elder Russel Sari and Max Numbi spoke on behalf of the church families and administration, expressing their appreciation and thanks for the training ministers’ service. Gifts were presented to Hobert Berry and Kennedy Mark by the church members, along with some money as a token of gratitude.

As they said their goodbyes, Elder Matthew James spoke on behalf of the congregation: “Training ministers Kennedy Mark and Hobert Berry, we were blessed with your wonderful messages this week, and we hope God will bless both of you in your ministry work. We are grateful to Sonoma Adventist College for providing us with this opportunity to have you serve at Wankun Seventh-Day Adventist Church.” With handshakes and warm wishes, the training ministers bade the church farewell as they prepared to depart the following day.

Divine Grace and Love Highlighted on Women’s Ministries Emphasis Day at Wankun SDA Church

03 Jun 2023 David M Adzab

Yesterday, the Women’s Ministries department of Wankun Seventh-Day Adventist Church celebrated Women’s Ministries Emphasis Day. The day’s program was organized by the members of the ministry and featured a sermon by Christina Maran during the divine service.

Maran’s sermon, entitled “A Love That Precedes One’s Choices,” focused on the concept of prevenient grace. This idea, coined by John Wesley in the 18th century, suggests that divine grace precedes human decisions. Maran concluded her sermon by emphasizing that God’s grace and love guide our choices, decisions, and lifestyle.

The Women’s Ministries department and congregation of Wankun Seventh-Day Adventist Church were delighted to celebrate this special day and to hear Maran’s inspiring message. They were reminded of the importance of God’s love and grace in their lives.

A Journey of Faith & Trust: Benjamin Patana & Russell Daniel

24 May 2023 David M Adzab

This is a story of faith and trust in the Lord about two young missionaries who met God in His vineyard. Benjamin Patana and Russell Daniel come from a small village in the Markham Valley of Morobe Province.

After graduating from Sonoma Adventist College with a diploma in Theology in 2021, they were not successful in acquiring a job as expected, which landed them both back in their village at Wankun.

Back in their village, they met their church pastor Enepo Umba, who played a very important role in helping them to utilize their skills and serve in their local church back at home.

While serving as volunteers in the church there have been countless challenges that both Russell and Benjamin had to encounter back at their village church. “We have to support our work financially which is one of our biggest challenges,” recalled Benjamin. “Apart from that, we also face other challenges too as well, but we thank God that He has strengthened us through the support of our church leaders and congregations,” he added.

After a year of serving voluntarily, they received news from the local mission that they had been accepted into the mission to work as volunteer missionaries under the Volunteer in Action (VIA) program. It was a big relief for Benjamin and Russell to finally make it into the mission workforce at last. Not long after, within a month, they were both promoted to full-time employment.

Recalling all the struggles that they both had to endure just to serve even without pay, they thank God and the executive committee for choosing them to join the mission workforce, added Russell.

Upon receiving their postings, Benjamin Patana was called to serve in the Marawaka District as the church pastor of the Marawaka Seventh-Day Adventist Church, while Russell Daniel was called to serve in the neighboring village church of Banabin as their church pastor. On May 12th, Benjamin was finally flown into Marawaka to begin his ministry career.

Russell, the last remaining missionary of the two back in Wankun, joined them one final time on Sunday for their Adventurer Fun Day trip to the Rainforest Habitat in Lae. He will now begin his ministry career as a full-time church pastor at Banabin.

Upon farewelling the duo at their farewell gathering, the church thanked them saying, “We praise God and thank Him for all that He has done through Russell and Benjamin and their work here at Wankun Seventh-Day Adventist Church. With the same spirit that they started their journey as missionaries here, we believe that it will continue to flourish wherever they set their feet and we wish them God’s blessings,” they added.

Wankun is now focusing on grooming its young generations to become good citizens and disciple makers in the community.

Laboring for a Greater Cause

29 Mar 2023 Russell Daniel

A team of dedicated church members, mostly men, embarked on a journey to Ramu bush on March 28th, 2023, to cut down logs and mill them into timbers for the construction of the Children Discipleship Centre and the Bumpuap Seventh-Day Adventist Church.

Despite the long journey, the team’s determination and devotion kept them going. After several hours of cutting down the logs and preparing them for the sawmill, they worked relentlessly to roll them into the sawmill to be cut into timbers.

The Children Discipleship Centre and Bumpuap Seventh-Day Adventist Church will stand as a testament to the team’s hard work and dedication.

As part of the church community, we are truly proud of the team’s accomplishment. It is remarkable how their efforts have furthered the work of the church.

Behold I was Sick & You Visited Me

07 Mar 2023 Benjamin Patana

Today, the Adventist Community Services and Women's Ministry of the Wankun and Bumpuap Seventh-day Adventist church came together for a visitation program to support Deacon Erisha Rigi, who has been ill for some time. The program was a beautiful display of love and care for our brother in need.

The Bible teaches us to care for the sick and show compassion towards others. In the book of Matthew, Jesus says, "I was sick and you looked after me... whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me" (Matthew 25:36, 40). Through this program, the Adventist Community Services and Women's Ministry embodied this teaching, providing practical assistance and emotional support to Deacon Erisha Rigi and his family.

In addition to providing spiritual and emotional support, the Adventist Community Services and Women's Ministry also recognized the practical needs of Deacon Erisha Rigi and his family. By providing food supplies and firewood, they showed their willingness to meet the physical needs of their brother in need.

As Christians, we are called to be the hands and feet of Jesus, showing love and care to those around us. Today's visitation program is an excellent example of how we can fulfill this calling. Let us continue to care for and support one another in times of need, following the example of Christ and embodying his teachings in our actions.

The community has been greatly impacted by Pastor Enepo's leadership and direction, and the church has suffered greatly as a result of his departure.

Enepo will now be assigned to the Nawaeb District of the Morobe Mission where he will be in charge of the recently established district after being promoted to the position of district director. Enepo will be departing from Wankun Church, but this is a fantastic opportunity for him to continue serving the Seventh-Day Adventist community. The congregation's goodbye to Pastor Enepo and expression of appreciation for his years of service to the community took place during the revival meeting as a result.

The Wankun Seventh-Day Adventist Church is happy for Enepo and his new position despite the sadness of his departure. In his new position, the church has faith that he will carry on serving the Lord and sharing the gospel with even more people. The church is grateful for their time with Pastor Enepo and optimistic about the future because they know he will leave a positive impression wherever he goes.
